III. UNION RIGHTS
Model Clauses for Teachers

A. The Union shall have access to all information which the Committee is required by law to make available to the public or such other information that is directly necessary to represent employees pursuant to this Agreement. For those items not covered by the Open Records Act, R.I. Gen. Laws § 38-2-1, et seq., reproduction and mailing costs shall be borne by the Union.

B. The president of the Union acting as a representative of the bargaining unit shall be given a reasonable opportunity to meet with the Committee or its designees at such hours as are mutually convenient, without loss of normal compensation or benefits, for the purpose of effectuating this agreement. Provided, however, neither the Union President or other employee acting in the capacity of a Union representative shall be entitled to any compensation including but not limited to overtime, compensatory time or other benefits, direct or indirect to which they might have been entitled had they not been acting as a Union official during the hour(s) in question. No off-duty employee shall be compensated for attending negotiating sessions, grievance hearings, or other Union related business.

C. .Union officials may, in the discretion of and with the permission of the school principal or other authorized administrator, transact official Union business on school property and may use school facilities and equipment related to the representation of RIASC school district employees only and provided that the Union's use does not interfere with school operations. No school facilities and equipment may be used for partisan political activities. The Union shall pay for materials, supplies used, and for any damage resulting from such use.

D. The Committee shall withhold from each teacher's paycheck an amount of money equal to that portion of the Union dues fairly applicable to the administration of this Agreement and shall transmit said monies to the Union no later than thirty (30) days after each deduction is made, together with the names of the individual teacher and the period covered.

E. The Union warrants that the amount of union dues is equal to that necessary for the administration of this agreement and that no portion of said union dues shall be used by the Union for any political purpose or any other purpose not necessary for the administration of this agreement.
