IV. WORK SCHEDULE

A. The Committee and the Union recognize and agree that teachers, as professionals, have a myriad of responsibilities that extend beyond the scheduled school day. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Researching and developing lesson plans
2. Maintaining and enhancing the teacher's knowledge and skills through reading, participation in professional development activities, and advanced formal academic study
3. Evaluating student work
4. Coordinating pedagogical activities with other academic professionals
5. Interacting with students and their parents and/or guardians

The starting and dismissal time for students at each RIASC school shall be established by the School Committee after consultation with the school's teachers, staff, parents and students.

B. The normally scheduled school day shall be ______ hours.

C. Teachers shall to report to school not less than 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the students' official school day and shall remain until after the students have been dismissed at the end of the day except when they are engaged in official school activities that takes them away from the school premises.

D. Absent extraordinary circumstances, teachers shall report for duty 187 days per annum. The day before the first day of pupil attendance and the remaining days when school is not in session shall be used for curriculum/staff development and/or parent conferences.

E. Any teachers who are required to work more than 187 days shall be paid 1/187 of their annual salary (not including Coaching or other Extracurricular Activity Supplements) for each extra day worked.

F. When preparing the school calendar for the ensuing school year, or where an adopted calendar is modified (excluding routine inclement weather days) the Superintendent shall consult with the Union president. The Superintendent may also consult with other employees.

G. The normal school week shall be Monday through Friday.
