ARTICLE XXII NON-TEACHING DUTIES

A. The Committee and the Alliance accept as a goal the most objective utilization of teacher time. To this end, they agree as follows:
1. Except for nurse-teachers, physical education teachers, and other personnel with professional responsibilities directly related to health services, teachers shall not be required to administer eye or ear examinations but may be required to assist in the administration thereof.
2. 2. Except in cases of emergency, elementary teachers shall not be required to supervise students without the assistance of at least one other teacher, administrator or staff during recess. Before or after taking their lunch, elementary teachers will utilize the remainder of the student lunch / recess period to do professional responsibilites related to their position or recess duty as scheduled on a rotating basis at the discretion of the Principal based on the needs of the student population not to exceed four (4) teachers. Itinerant teachers with non-instructional time may be assigned to cover lunch. Elementary school duty assignments shall be distributed equitably. The school administration shall make a good faith effort to keep duty assignments to a minimum in order to provide time for elementary teachers to fulfill their classroom responsibilities.
3. The following factors will be considered in the assignment of teacher assistants to perform nonprofessional functions:
a. The optimum utilization of teacher time in the performance of professional functions.
b. The provision for teachers of a duty-free lunch period.
B. Teachers may not use their own cars to drive students in connection with school or school-related activities except upon the express authorization of the principal and upon such terms and conditions as he/she may prescribe.
