ARTICLE 6 TEXTBOOKS, TECHNOLOGY, SUPPLIES AND CURRICULUM
Exeter-West Greenwich School District
A. All teachers shall be provided with all necessary curriculum and instructional materials relative to their assignment, as may be approved by the Committee.
B. Curriculum and instructional materials shall be reevaluated on a cyclical basis. When new materials or programs are purchased, teachers shall have two years to implement before embarking on a new subject area of program restructuring. At the elementary level no more than one content area shall be revised in any given year.
C. The year prior to adoption and purchase of programs and instructional materials, teachers from each grade level or content area affected shall select, pilot and evaluate them. If a pre- made curriculum and material package is not available, teachers will be allotted agreed upon time (by the leadership team of the building) prior to implementation to develop such materials. The materials must meet existing state requirements.
D. To address applicable requirements of 6.B and 6.C (above), summer curriculum committees shall be formed and composed of at least three (3) primary stakeholders. At least two (2) members from each grade level (PK-6) who will be implementing the curriculum or program shall be allowed to participate in the process. In grades seven (7) through twelve (12), all department members shall be allowed to participate. Curriculum committee members shall be compensated at the auxiliary rate defined in Article 18 of this agreement. This arrangement shall not interfere with the provision of related job-embedded training or related training conducted by an outside expert.
E. The Committee will use all reasonable efforts to provide sufficient teaching equipment and supplies as needed in the school system.
F. Staff members agree to exercise due care in the handling and transmission of texts and supplies -maintaining an accurate record of the students and the texts and supplies that they are assigned.
G. All teachers shall be provided a desk, chair, file cabinet, space for storing materials, and computer and the Committee will make every effort to continue to do so.
H. The Association and the superintendent shall appoint four members each to a Standing Committee on Technology. This Committee shall make recommendations to the superintendent regarding the adoption and uses of technology to: reduce paperwork, simplify the collection and analysis of assessment data, expand professional development activities, enhance classroom instruction, and determine other uses of technology that will improve the management of the District, student achievement, and teachers’ professional practice. Teachers shall adhere to the Acceptable Use Policy and other technology-related policies of the District.
I. Teachers shall immediately report stolen, lost or damaged school department equipment and materials, including but not limited to swipe cards, computers, electronic devices, Elmos, and projectors.
1. Lost swipe cards shall immediately be reported to the building principal and the Director of Technology, via e-mail, so that they can be immediately de-activated.
2. Stolen computers (from automobiles or outside of the school) shall be reported immediately to the police department, and a copy of the filed police report shall be submitted to the building principal and Director of Technology.
3. All other lost, stolen, or damaged equipment shall be reported to the building principal on an internal incident report which shall include a signed affidavit to the circumstances related to the loss or damage.
4. Upon receipt of a police or incident report, an investigation of the incident shall be conducted by the building principal and/or appropriate district-level administrator, as necessary.
5. If the investigation determines that the loss or damage is the result of neglectful behavior, the teacher shall either:
a. Assume responsibility for replacement/repairs.
b. Sign an agreement assuming full responsibility for loss or damage of a replacement device.
c. Purchase insurance prior to issuance of a new device.
6. Any signed agreement or insurance policy shall remain in place until the next regularly scheduled cycle of device replacement.
